My Unfolding Story
From my earliest memories growing up in sunny So Cal in the Sixties,I was inspired to work with my hands and explore my imagination, to create something special from very little. I was fascinated by what I could make with my colorful set of Flair felt markers, playing with paints, or a needle and some yarn. My parents and grandparents modeled creative expression to me, each in their own unique ways. I’m a treasure hunter at heart, whether meeting and gathering up new friends, beach-combing for shells, collecting unique finds, seeking inspiration for future projects, or capturing views from behind the lens my camera.
My artistic accomplishments were recognized early on, with commissions for my art beginning when I was barely ten. By the time I had graduated from high school I was a working freelance artist, and was honored to have been granted several awards and scholarships including one to attend the highly acclaimed Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design from CSULB who had one of the top design programs in the world. I launched into my career as a Graphic Designer and Art Director and worked for some top design firms, creating award winning graphic designs and illustrations for several major companies. Finding my Creative Voice
Over my lifetime I have explored many art mediums and ways of expressing myself creatively. I am a perpetual student and love imparting some of what I’ve learned to help others discover their own creative voices. I have enjoyed teaching art and design to hundreds of students over the years, of all ages and abilities. My Fine Art and Designs have been shown and collected by art lovers from all over the globe. I’ve always sought to continue with my expressive painting and drawing, which are a bit more free-flowing than the disciplines of the more technical aspects of graphic design. It was not always easy, especially while my husband and I were raising our three kids, and didn’t always have the luxury of studio space. We started and led a number of non-profit outreach and service organizations, so at times my time for making art was limited…but creativity has always been my through-line. And Art finds a way!
Overcoming and Becoming
Life can get so complicated at times, and I have had more than my share of difficulties that needed to be overcome, suffering a serious injury and the subsequent physical challenges, and also having gone a few rounds of battling cancer. In the end of 2025 as I was finishing my cancer treatment, my world came crashing down. I suddenly lost my husband, Don, the love of my life and best friend for the last 40 years.
By the grace of God I am still here, seeking to go forward, living in gratitude, and continuing to grow each day. My creative juices are still flowing, perhaps more than ever as I have learned how very therapeutic both seeing and creating art can be, and how powerful of a pain-reliever it can be as well.
My Creative Oasis
My recent creative expressions are leaning a bit more towards abstraction, using color and the most foundational elements to convey a feeling or create a mood. In 2025 while enduring cancer treatments, I rediscovered joys and dopamine releasing effects of creating art in polymer clay. I began designing one of a kind wearable original works of Art, and launched my Mod Springs Designs Collections. I was so honored that both my Art and Design work were accepted into and featured in the globally acclaimed Palm Springs Modernism Design Show. According to the internet, I am considered an “Iconic Palm Springs Artist” which was surprising news to me and I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit when I first read it. I will endeavor to live the rest of my life creating Art & Designs worthy of such a lofty designation!
I am thankful today to be able to live and create in the scenic desert oasis of Rancho Mirage, California (in the Palm Springs area) where I am daily inspired by the natural beauty of the desert, clear palm tree laden skies, and a vibrant creative culture! If you are ever in the Palm Springs area, I’d love to meet you and give you a private showing of some of my Art and Mod Springs Designs in my creative oasis, my Art Studios & Design Showroom in my home.
